Always achieving our potential

Welcome all

This term we are celebrating lots of successes. We have had our annual pupil awards alongside the Esteem Multi Academy Awards. The staff awards were given to Ian Spencer won ‘Unsung Hero’; Laura Richards won ‘Making a difference within the Classroom’; Catherine Hunter won ‘Making a difference outside of the classroom’ and Vicki Appleby won ‘Teacher of the year’. We would like to congratulate all winners but also celebrate all of the nominations, which culminated in over 80 nominations by staff, parents/carers, children and wider stakeholders for 47 different members of staff. Thank you once again for all of your support with this.

Another success was the whole school gaining the Gold in the National SMSC Award, this was led by Sally Millman Jones. This award acknowledges the work we do as a school to enhance every pupils' Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural development.

Alongside this the school has achieved ‘Healthy Schools Status’ which demonstrates that our school is embedding and improving provision against the four core health themes of Healthy Schools. These are Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) education including Relationships Education (RE) Relationships and Sec Education (RSE), Health Education (HE) and Drug Education (including alcohol, tobacco and volatile substance abuse.); Healthy Eating; Physical Activity and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH).

This term we are celebrating that the Fountains Primary School have gained the contract to deliver the Staffordshire Enhanced District Inclusion Support (SEDIS) offer across East Staffordshire with Staffordshire County Council. The SEDIS model comprises groups of schools working together to offer outreach and in-reach support to enable children and young people to remain within their mainstream setting. Within East Staffs we will be working with William Shrewsbury Primary School, Fountains High School and de Ferrers High School to deliver the service required. In order to ensure all children and young people achieve their full potential, SEDIS will support mainstream settings to remove barriers to learning and support the development of inclusive and relational learning environments. This will ensure that we continue to be an outward facing school and this impact of this means that we can continue make links for our pupils to access elements of mainstream schools wherever possible.

Another exciting partnership that happened this term was the Fountains Primary School worked with the BBC and Burton Albion Community Trust on marketing a new initiative called ‘Super Movers for Every Body’. This exciting initiative is aimed at pupils between 5-11 years old. The BBC2 recognise all children enjoy being active, and they want to support children with additional needs to feel included in activities in sport and PE at school. We have been using these resources well in school as we know how physical activity plays a vital role in the healthy development of children, and participating in sports and physical education benefits children’s physical, mental, and social well-being. This year Fountains Primary School have been learning German in their Languages lesson and therefore we wanted to extend their experiences and memorable moments building each pupil’s cultural capital. Because of this, this term some of the Year 5 and Year 6 pupils visited Cologne, in Germany. We flew from Manchester airport and stayed in a hotel in the centre of the city. The pupils were excited to experience the German culture and the city did not disappoint. We had a full itinerary and everyone enjoyed sampling the treats on offer at the Lindt chocolate museum. We then visited the Olympic Sports Museum and finished off the day with a cruise down the River Rhine. We were able to use some of the simple phrases and greetings we have been learning in class to converse with our tour guides and order food and drinks in the local cafes.

This term we have said a farewell to Adele Hopcott and Lucy Bushell who both joined our school as apprentices over 5 years ago. Lucy has now qualified as an Occupational Therapist and Adele has been employed as an Occupational Therapy Assistant and is back working within our school. We wish them both well for their future careers.

Please remember that our school is open for an open afternoon on Tuesday 1st September at 130pm, pupils are back at school on Wednesday 2nd September, 2024.

Finally, we would like to give thanks to all of the amazing young people who attend Fountains Primary School. I would also like to thank the parents, carers, staff, Full Governing Body, The Esteem Multi Academy Trust and the Trustee’s/members of our MAT for their continued hard work.

Happy Holidays all!
