Welcome back everyone, I hope you have all enjoyed the half term break and are raring to go.
We have an exciting Spring term planned in the Starfish Class. The new Cornerstones project is called ‘Wriggle and Crawl’ and the children will be out and about on a minibeast hunt. They will be setting up a minibeast laboratory and observing their every move. They will also learn about bees, worms and butterflies and how to draw food chains that demonstrate who eats who. The class will be carrying out investigations to find out how far a snail travels in a day and how a spider catches its prey.
Our Maths topics this term are; Shape, Symmetry, Pattern and Fractions. The children will be exploring the properties of 3D shapes, creating patterns with 2D shapes and learning about orientation. They will be encouraged to recognise, find, name and write fractions 1/4, 2/4 and 3/4 of a length, shape, set of objects or quantity.
In our SPAG lessons this term the children will be building on their understanding of digraphs and consonant clusters to spell new words to incorporate into their sentences. They will also be learning about synonyms, compound words and homophones to expand their ever growing vocabulary. The children will be using the Mighty Writer board to compose their own fictional stories. They will be developing their awareness of story structure and learn how to proof read their work to check for errors.
